Internet connection windows 7 lan

The modem that the wired connection was using was a substantially slower service less than 5 mpbs compared to nearly 30 mbps. I spent the last two days fighting this on a users computer and even went as far as wiping the machine back to factory. I finally realized that no matter what I was always getting the same IP address. I had to hunt for it on one of our many DHCP servers but once I found the record I deleted it and now my problem is solved.

Resolved my issue!! Wednesday, September 19, PM. I have no idea why this worked, but it did. I was trying to access internet on my Dell E Win 7 via a Netgear repeater. I could connect to the repeater, but it said no internet access, while at the same time my other computer Mac could access the internet via that same repeater. Anyway, I restarted holding F8, and now it works just fine.

Would love to know why this worked Sunday, October 28, AM. I may have found another mechanism that has these same symptoms. I had run thru all the prescribed fixes with no joy. I was trying yet another thing last night and came across a message in a log that my version of Intel ProSet Wireless was not compatible with the version of the driver I was using. Apparently the utility that updated my drivers did not also update ProSet. I suspect that windows may use some API delivered in Proset as part of their interface to the wireless function.

I installed an update that included both the driver and the Intel ProSet Wireless utility and my problem resolved itself. Wednesday, October 31, AM. My problem is similar to that of the OP. I have a system with 2 boot drives, Windows 7 Pro and Windows 7 Ultima, both 64 bit. Just over a week ago, I had to disconnect my PC because of a heavy tropical thunderstorm. After maybe 40 minutes things were safe enough, so I reconnected and started the PC.

I had no network connection. Troubleshooting insisted that the network-card was unplugged, while it was not. After having tried everything I could think off, I rebooted from my 2nd drive with Win 7 Pro. Everything was fine with that system, so it was not a problem with the on-board Atheros L1 ethernet-card.

A misconfigured or malfunctioning router will prevent all your devices from connecting to the Internet. Before you begin, try to determine what category your problem falls into.

For example, if you are not able to connect using Internet Explorer, but Firefox or Chrome work, then that would be an OS related issue.

If nothing on your computer connects to the Internet, but another computer on the same network can connect, that would be a computer related issue. Make sure that Use a proxy server for your LAN is unchecked and that Automatically detect settings is checked. Enhance Protected Mode is a feature in IE 10 and IE 11 that makes your browsing more secure by enabling additional security features.

It is usually not enabled by default unless in a corporate environment. It can prevent certain add-ons from working if they are not compatible. If nothing on your computer can connect to the Internet, but other computers work fine, then you know there is something wrong with that one particular computer. The first thing to do is to check the obvious stuff.

If you are using a hard-wired connection, make sure the cable is plugged in fully into your router and computer. Also, try a different cable in case there is a problem with the cable. Secondly, if you are connecting via WiFi, make sure that it is turned on if you are using a laptop. Some laptops have physical switches that let you turn off the wireless functionality. This is another really common cause for Internet connection problems. Lots of people buy these Internet protection suites that include anti-virus, anti-malware, firewall, web security, and other software.

Sometimes the software goes overboard and it ends up messing up your connection to the Internet. You can usually try turning off just the firewall instead of the entire software suite. To do this, click on Start and type in ncpa.

This will bring up the list of network adapters in Control Panel. Right-click on the one that is currently connected and choose Properties. In the next dialog, make sure that the Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically radio buttons are selected.

The next step you can take is to try disabling the network card and then enabling it again. You can do this by clicking on start and typing ncpa. Right-click on the network card and choose Disable. Once disabled, just right-click again and choose Enable. When you do this, you have to restart your computer and Windows will reinstall the network card automatically.

Now the networks are operatable. You might need to restart both the computers in some cases. Leave a Reply Cancel reply Your email address will not be published.
